The Promoting Peace Through Education website was created by Jeff and Eleni Rice to help support the heroic work of Greg Mortenson, Central Asia Institute, and Pennies for Peace to educate students in remote, impoverished regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan. This effort to build schools focuses on giving the children in these war-torn regions hope for a better future and a better life.

Eleni's work through her charter school to provide students with an opportunity for a meaningful service project around the Pennies for Peace fundraising efforts inspired one student, Cara Krpalek, to propose creating a logo that superimposed a peace sign over a penny. From this burst of inspiration, Cara and Eleni worked together to create the peace symbol as a collage of American, Pakistani, and Afghani faces. This design symbolizes the friendship and collaboration of people from these different cultures, working together with the unifying goal of educating thousands of children and promoting peace, one school at a time.
