| Greg Mortenson |
Welcome to the Promoting Peace Through Education website. Our names are Jeff and
Eleni Rice. We both work in the public education field in California; Jeff as an advocate and consultant to advance the Personalized
Learning educational model for students, and Eleni as a mentor teacher in a Personalized Learning charter school. After reading the inspiring book, Three Cups of Tea, by Greg Mortenson, we had the great
honor of hearing Greg speak and meeting him in person for the first time in November of 2007. Inspired by his heroic
work through his nonprofit organization, Central Asia Institute (www.ikat.org), and his Pennies for Peace fundraising efforts (www.penniesforpeace.org), we pledged to Greg on the spot to do what we could to help his work by
supporting the building of one school either in Afghanistan or Pakistan. That pledge has now charged us with the
goal of raising a total of $55,000, which will not only support the construction of an entire school building, but will also
support the salaries of the school's teachers and all resources and curriculum for a period of 3-5 years. So here we are! We have designed this website to help fulfill our ambitious goal of raising
a total of $55,000, through selling beautiful teeshirts, greeting cards, and bracelets that uniquely reflect the Pennies for
Peace vision. As of March 2010, through our collaborative efforts with the APLUS+ Personalized Learning Network Association
and with schools throughout Nevada County, we've raised more than $15,000 so far. We are pleased now to add to our list of
collaborative partners the California Charter Schools Association. Please join us in our efforts!

| Students With Hope for a Better Future |
Today, through the work of Greg Mortenson and the Central Asia Institute,
more than 20,000 Pakistani and Afghani children have clean water, school supplies, and most importantly, hope for a better
future. Greg's efforts have resulted in the building of more than 70 schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan; schools that
will prepare children with critical skills and knowledge needed for a more fulfilling and peaceful community life. As Greg
often states, "Ignorance, not terrorism, is the greatest threat to world peace."
